If you want to know where I first began to understand the environment, it was in Michigan, in the woods, on a tree farm that my parents bought in about 1958 -- about the same time I was born. We farmed it. We planted thousands of trees. We hunted for morel mushrooms. We fished. We hunted. We hiked and walked through the woods in snow shoes, we swam in ponds and nearby lakes, and we also zipped around on snowmobiles. We made maple syrup and shared it with friends.
