Ausra collects sun's rays, $60.6 million

GreenTech Media is reporting that venture capitalists invested a record $2.8 billion in renewable energy companies in the third quarter. The fourth quarter hasn't started out too badly either.Ausra Inc., a provider of large-scale solar thermal energy systems, said Wednesday it has secured $60.6 million in new financing. KERN Partners led the funding, joined by Generation Investment Management, Starfish Ventures, as well as founding investors Khosla Ventures and Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers.
