Today, the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced that the residues of the pesticide carbofuran that end up on our food and in our drinking water are too high, and may be unsafe. Thus, after first registering the chemical for agriculture use in 1969, and estimating that about 1 million pounds are used annually in the U.S., EPA is now proposing to cancel all uses of the pesticide. EPA found in their review of the pesticide that the acute dietary risk from food alone is about 2.5-fold above acceptable levels for the general population, and almost 5-fold above acceptable level...
