Alcohol Boosting Enables Significant Downsizing of Heavy-Duty Diesels to Smaller Gasoline Engines

Using a direct-injected alcohol fuel as a second, boosting fuel can allow a turbo-charged, high-compression ratio spark-ignited gasoline engine to replace larger diesels in certain heavy-duty applications, according to work being done by Ethanol Boosting Systems, LLC (EBS), a spin-off from MIT.
